Human Resources
The Human Resource Department is responsible for the recruitment and hire of all personnel who deliver a full range of services to the community. Adrian has a staff of 160 regular full-time employees and over 100 part-time and seasonal employees.
Full-time employees receive a comprehensive benefit package, including health insurance, dental, defined benefit retirement benefits, vacation, sick leave, holidays, life insurance, short term disability, 457 Deferred Compensation, flexible medical and dependent care accounts and retiree health savings plans.
In addition to the hiring of staff, the Human Resource Department is responsible for collective bargaining and contract administration for the City's four bargaining units. These unions include TPOAM, Police Officers Labor Council (POLC), Police Officers Association of Michigan (POAM), and the International Association of Firefighters (IAFF).
Police Officers and Firefighters are selected from a list of eligible applicants who have successfully passed a written and oral exam. Testing is conducted when a vacancy occurs with no active eligibility list.
Interested candidates for a career in law enforcement and the fire service may send a resume and letter of interest to the Human Resource Department where it will be placed on file until a test is scheduled, upon which time, the candidate will be notified of the time and place.
Resumes for all other full-time positions are welcome when a vacancy occurs and public notice is published in the local newspaper.
Applications for seasonal positions (playgrounds, lifeguards, concession workers and laborers) are accepted after January 1 for work beginning April 1st through October 31st.
The City of Adrian is an equal opportunity employer and shall consider all qualified applicants for all positions without regard to race, color, sex, religion, national origin, age, height, weight, marital status, veteran status, disability, or any other protected category. We provide reasonable accommodation for qualified individuals with a disability, if requested.
